Avalanche Thyristors.
Avalanche Thyristors.
Avalanche thyristors are used in static power converters and in other DC and AC circuits with a frequency of up to 1,000 Hz. Under certain conditions of reverse voltages, they can be used without any additional protection measures.

Avalanche diodes are rectifier diodes with controlled avalanching allowing power pulse to dissipate in the breakdown region of the reverse volt-ampere curve within a limited period of time.
These diodes are used in DC and AC circuits with frequency of up to 500 Hz, and in general purpose electrical and electronic devices.
Avalanche diodes can eliminate or considerably simplify overvoltage protection circuits in converters, especially in case of a large number of series connected diodes.

Fast distributed gate thyristors and fast strong distributed gate thyristors (high-speed pulse thyristors) are used in oscillators, modulators, inverters, and electric drive systems with thyristor-controlled pulse control with frequency of up to 20,000 Hz, where pulse operating currents, short on/off switching intervals, and high rates of current build-up are primarily required. The thyristors are characterized by high current-carrying capacity at high frequencies.
